For a month or longer, neither a hotel nor serviced accommodation is automatically cheaper. Compare quotes for the same dates and guests, then add the costs you will actually incur for meals, laundry, parking and travel. A kitchen, extra bedrooms or a separate living room may make a serviced home more practical, but the value depends on how you use it.
Here is a straightforward way to compare a standard hotel, an extended-stay hotel and a serviced home for a work trip, relocation or longer visit.
Compare the same dates, guests and room arrangements
Start with your exact arrival and departure dates. Four weeks means 28 nights; a calendar month can mean a different number. Ask for a total quote for your dates rather than multiplying an advertised starting rate.
Use the same number of guests and the sleeping arrangements you need. For a team, compare the required hotel rooms with a home that has enough suitable bedrooms and bathrooms. A property’s maximum guest capacity does not mean every guest has a separate bedroom.
For a useful nightly comparison, divide each complete accommodation quote by the same number of nights. For a group budget, you can also divide by the number of guests, while keeping the actual room arrangements in view.
Look beyond the accommodation price
Use this checklist for every option. Include each charge once, and ask what is already covered by the quote.

A practical comparison is the accommodation quote plus charges outside it, plus your expected meals, laundry, parking and travel costs. A kitchen gives you the option to cook; it does not guarantee savings if you plan to eat out every evening. The same applies to laundry facilities and parking you will not use.
When each type of stay may suit you
A serviced home may suit a family or team who want to cook, share living space and settle into a routine. Check the layout, bathroom arrangements and workspace rather than choosing on guest capacity alone.
A hotel may suit you if you prefer the services it offers, such as breakfast, regular housekeeping or a staffed reception. Confirm those services and their hours with the hotel. An extended-stay hotel may offer a kitchenette or laundry access, so compare its actual facilities and quote too.
For any longer stay, consider the location as well as the building. A lower accommodation price may be less useful if it adds a costly or inconvenient journey every day.
